Surgical interventions
If a tooth can no longer be saved, we will discuss the next steps with you. If you wish, the tooth can be removed in our practice under local anaesthetic or in a surgical practice under sedation. In any case, we endeavor to carry out treatment that is as painless as possible for you and as gentle as possible on the surrounding tissue.
Tooth and wisdom tooth removal
If the teeth are severely displaced or difficult to remove due to anatomical features, we will refer you to a surgical practice, which can then take care of the tooth removal with a great deal of experience and expertise. Anxious patients who prefer treatment under anesthesia are also in good hands there.
Anesthesia
Teeth are usually removed under local anesthesia. At the patient’s request, it is always possible to receive treatment in a surgical practice under analgosedation or anesthesia. This is possible in the surgical practices on certain days when anesthetists are on site.
Aftercare
Following tooth removal, we will of course not leave you alone with your questions. Regardless of whether the tooth was removed in our practice or by our surgical colleagues, we will be happy to take care of your questions, the removal of the stitches and the further treatment of the resulting gap.
Frequently asked questions
How you should behave after tooth removal or dental surgery:
1 What should be considered on the day of surgery?
Please do not drive yourself home after the operation. Bear in mind that your ability to drive may also be reduced over the next few days, especially if you have taken additional medication.
If a swab has been placed on the fresh wound, you must hold it in place by biting on it and remove it after an hour.
2. what do I have to consider for the first 2 days after the procedure?
Avoid major physical exertion during the first two days (risk of postoperative bleeding).
Drink little alcohol, do not smoke, avoid heat (sauna, sunburn).
3. what do I have to watch out for when eating?
Do not eat anything until the anesthesia has worn off.
If possible, do not eat fresh milk products with bacterial cultures (e.g. yogurt). The The lactic acid bacteria they contain can lead to wound healing disorders.
4. what do I need to pay attention to in terms of oral hygiene?
Continue careful dental care. Carefully clean the immediate wound area. Do not touch the sutures and wound area.
Frequent rinsing is harmful. Do not suck on the wound. Initially, please only rinse with one or two sips of freshly boiled water or camomile solution after eating and brushing your teeth.
5. are cold applications useful after the procedure?
To prevent swelling, cool the wound area for 2 to 3 hours after the operation. After 15 minutes of exposure to cold, stop for 5 minutes, then apply cold again. It is best to place a cooling pad on the cheek in the wound area; place a damp cloth between the cooling pad and the cheek.
If necessary, you can repeat this procedure 1 or 2 more times on the following two days after the operation.
Never apply heat within the first 48 hours!!!
6 What should I do in the event of secondary bleeding?
If, contrary to expectations, post-operative bleeding occurs, place a gauze bandage or , if necessary, a fresh cloth handkerchief on the wound and bite down so that the cloth is pressed onto the wound.
You should not lie down, but sit instead. If the bleeding stops after 1 to 2 hours has not come to a standstill, contact the practice or the emergency or Sunday service indicated in the daily newspaper.
Never rinse or continue to spit out!
7. will I be in pain?
Pain in the wound area after the injection has worn off is normal. You can take painkillers if necessary. However, if severe pain only occurs after 1 to 2 days, you must report immediately for follow-up treatment.
